Dear Subscriber,
"If you want to stand out from the crowd,
you've got to stand out from the crowd"
There are so many people singing the blues;
the lyrics vary, but they all go something
like this:
The Recognition Blues
(work with me here use some imagination!).
"My
boss don't like me very much" Da na na
na Never say thank you to me
Da na na na Pass me over for the
promotion Da na na na Just
smirked and said wasn't meant to be Da
na na na Oh yeah I got the recognition
blues."
Some people believe that coming to
work, working really hard, and doing a good job
should be enough to get recognition, well it
isn't.
You see that's why you get a pay cheque.
If you want to get noticed, then you've got be
noticeable, or else you're just going to blend in
with everybody else. It's not
your boss's job to take you by the hand lead the
way to your aspirations. That's up to you.
What you need to do is get a plan together
that's going to set you apart from everybody
else.
Ladies and Gentlemen the road to success is a
paved one. All the successful people before
you have done the work, you just have to be
willing to walk down it.
Here are a few tips on the road to
recognition:
- Go above and beyond. and keep a
record - Do it before they ask.
Finish the project ahead of schedule. Take a
chance, calculate your risks and go for it!
Finds ways to add value to whatever it is that
you do for a living and offer it wholeheartedly,
without expectations.
- Find solutions not problems.
Anyone can find a problem, the superstars
they find solutions. Start providing
possibilities for your bosses/department
or organizations real challenges,
and you're going to get people's attention.
Make certain you keep full written
records of your ideas and present
everything initially in writing.
- Your attitude determines your
altitude so be open - people don't
always listen at first, especially if you are
perceived as a threat) Be smart - a little
strategy goes a long way) Be kind - always
create solutions where everyone will win, and
everyone keeps their dignity.
- Stop whining and
complaining - Please stop whining and
complaining. Stop singing your blues, whatever
they are. First step here is to recognize
what you whine about, and then own it as your
problem. Here's an example; person says,
"nobody listens to me". Well whose problem is
that? I mean if people aren't listening to
you, it's up to you to give them a reason to
listen. That's how you take ownership the
problem.
Once you own your problems you can find
solutions.
Until then you're just a whiny, complainy,
victim. Whiny, complainy, victims do not get
positive recognition, they do not get promoted and
they don't get good raises.
Remember my friends:
"Successful people make a habit of doing the
things that unsuccessful people find
uncomfortable"
Peace to your heart
