How to Save Time

Dear Subscriber

Want More Time?

Today I really wanted to write about all those self-righteous indignations that we all experience now and again.  This week just so happens to be a "now" week for me.

Then I realized that if I would just slow down a little bit I might find all of these self-righteous indignations were just that, and I didn't need to react like I have been.

When I slowed down I remembered a concept, something I like to call  "poop".

You see what I've been experiencing this week, at the hands of others (dirty looks, anger, criticism, defensiveness etc) really had nothing to do with me (after all they're the ones flinging the poop) Although I was; I by no means had to accept their gift of poop.

Whenever I take a few moments to slow things down and look at the situation it all comes into perspective and I can take a deep breath and feel better.

I also realized that I too can be a poop flinger (this is not a pretty sight).  Often I start flinging around poop when I'm feeling stressed. Not having enough time, I have discovered through countless workshops on dealing with stress is one of the most common contributors to creating stress in ones life.

So with that, as passionate as I am feeling today, I've decided that instead of going off on some tangent, I would share with you and remind myself of some very useful tips on how to save time.

Please do note my focus on saving time verses the more common approach of making more time. Although jumping on the " How to make more time" bandwagon would be an easier sell, the inarguable fact of the matter is that it is not possible to make more time. We already have all the time in the world.  Your response was astounding and I personally would like to thank each of you that stepped up and took the time to answer the questions; what are your top 3 problems at work? And what are your top 3 problems at home?

So here are some not so traditional suggestions on How to Save Time

They were.

  1. Put things away in their own special spot as soon as you're done.  Whether this is a cancelled cheque, receipts, manuals, guarantees, or the toaster for crying out load, put them away right away.  By doing this you won't have to spend any time looking for stuff or tidying up after yourself.

  2. Stop saying "yes" when you really mean "no"

  3. Unless you have a better suggestion, just stay quiet.

  4. If it has to be done stop talking about it, whining about, complaining about it, losing sleep over it and just do it.

  5. Recognize that you can only take one step at a time - focus on what you can do now.

  6. Create separate stacks for different types of dishes

  7. The person with a great attitude is the person you want to spend most of your time with.

  8. When life is moving really fast, take an exit ramp and then visit a rest stop.

  9. Be careful that yesterday and tomorrow aren't taking up too much of today.

  10. A shortcut is not necessarily the fasted route.

Until next time
Peace Baby Peace!
